Effortless Hearing & Cognition

How Are Hearing and Cognition Related?

Humans utilize cognitive processes like knowledge, memory and intelligence in conjunction with the sensory input we receive in order to communicate. But when the sound signals from your ears are compromised, your brain has to work even harder to fill in the gaps. This extra effort can take its toll on the brain.

Earlens Hearing Aid Processor

Earlens Hearing Aid Processor

Earlens is the only hearing aid that uses light technology to transmit sound. Conventional hearing aids use a small speaker to amplify sounds; however, speakers can only amplify a limited range of frequencies without sound distortion or whistling. The Earlens hearing aid uses light and a small lens placed on your eardrum to directly activate your natural hearing system and produce rich, complete sound.

The Earlens Hearing Aid Processor and Light Tip allows for a richer sound experience by eliminating the major source of whistling that troubles conventional hearing aids. To minimize background and wind noise, the Earlens Hearing Aid adapts automatically to your environment. The lens is custom-built to fit your ear canal shape and stays in place through surface tension, similar to a contact lens in your eye; these attributes combine for an unparalleled comfort and stability in your ear.

Introducing ACCLARENT AERA™, A New Treatment for Eustachian Tube Dysfunction

The Eustachian tube is a passageway made of bone and cartilage that allows air to enter into the middle ear, behind the eardrum. This allows the pressure to equalize across the drum.  Eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD) occurs in about 5% of adults and can cause ear pressure, pain, hearing loss and tinnitus amongst other symptoms.  Patients with ETD can get fluid in their ears after flights, allergies or colds, are predisposed to getting ear infections, and can develop retraction of the ear drum which can lead to a cyst of skin in the ear called cholesteatoma. In the past, there was little to offer patients with ETD other than allergy and sinus care or ventilation tube insertion. The FDA has recently approved a new treatment for ETD. The ACCLARENT AERA™ Eustachian Tube Balloon Dilation System is the first device in the US indicated to dilate the Eustachian tube.
